For the past decade, since turning 60 and selling my part of the SE2 consulting firm, we have been spending an ever-increasing amount of time in the mountains near Tabernash.
We will always have a Denver abode due to commitments there. But these days, we refer to Denver as our “second home.” Yes, I know that this is a story of good fortune. We call our modest mountain place, albeit with great views, “TaberNest.”
Life is simply better up here. The scenery is far improved; relaxation comes easier; congestion of any kind is rare and passing. During the pandemic, social isolation obviously came a whole lot easier in this remote locale. Oh…and summers are a whole lot cooler.
On that score, I developed what I refer to as my “rule of 20.” Whatever the temperature in Denver, it is 20 degrees cooler up here. A 95 degree day in Denver is 75 in Tabernash.
Of course, that most often applies in winter, too. If it is 25 degrees along the Front Range, it will be around 5 degrees in these parts. But that is a tradeoff we are all too happy to make.
